What Brainstorms is building

The future Brainstorms Science Discovery Center

A permanent place in downtown New Port Richey to explore, experiment and learn, open all year.

The vision

“Brainstorms is envisioned as a hands on science discovery center where children, families, educators and visitors can explore, experiment and learn together. The physical center would feature interactive exhibits, flexible spaces for classes and community programs, and experiences connecting science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics with Florida's natural environment. More than a museum, it would be a lively community gathering place, built to spark curiosity, strengthen confidence and bring people downtown throughout the day and evening.”

What it would feature

Every part of the proposed center starts from the same idea. Discovery happens when we experiment, build, question and try again.

Interactive exhibits

Exhibits built for touching, testing and tinkering, so visitors of every age can experiment for themselves.

Flexible spaces for classes & community programs

Rooms that shift from school field trips to workshops, camps, meetings and community gatherings.

STEAM meets Florida's natural environment

Experiences connecting science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics with the rivers, coast and wildlife of the Nature Coast.

A gathering place, day and evening

A lively downtown destination that brings people together throughout the day and into the evening.

Picturing the center

Concept renderings communicate the scale of the vision. They illustrate an idea, and the final design may look different.

Where we are in the process

Brainstorms Science Discovery Center is a proposed project. One possible home is the historic Main & Bank Building in downtown New Port Richey, which Brainstorms has proposed to rehabilitate and bring back to life.

The final design, location, exhibits and opening timeline are subject to planning, funding and approval. The mission is already underway. Brainstorms serves the community today, and a permanent center is the next step.

What is proposed, and what is not yet decided

  • We have proposed a permanent science discovery center downtown, open all year.
  • We have proposed rehabilitating the historic Main & Bank Building as its home.
  • We envision interactive exhibits, flexible program spaces and Nature Coast connections.
  • The final design, site and schedule still depend on planning, funding and approval.

Why Brainstorms? Why here?

A permanent center would give local families a place to explore science close to home, strengthen our ties to the Nature Coast, support schools and bring more people downtown throughout the year.

Brainstorms today

The center is still a proposal, but the programs are real. Brainstorms serves the community now through programs and public events at libraries, festivals and popups across Pasco County.
